Salford Parent Carer Forum is a group of local parents and carers working in partnership with services across education, health, and social care to improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We bring together the voices, experiences, and ideas of families to shape better support, policies, and opportunities across Salford.
We believe that real change happens when families and professionals work together as equals — through open conversation, shared understanding, and co-production. Whether you’re a parent carer looking to connect, share your views, or learn more about local services, or a professional wanting to work collaboratively with families, you’re in the right place.
Together, we’re making sure that every child and young person with SEND in Salford can be heard, included, and thrive.

The UK government and the NHS describe SEND as "A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her" (SEND Code of Practice 2015)
Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn. They can affect their:
behaviour or ability to socialise, for example they struggle to make friends
reading and writing, for example because they have dyslexia
ability to understand things
concentration levels, for example because they have ADHD
physical ability

Every year, SalfordPCF host an annual SEND Information Day. This is an amazing opportunity for families who have a child/young person with SEND to come together, share their experiences, and find out more about what support services are available in Salford.
The GM Parent Carer Standards are a set of guidelines developed by the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSC) to improve the support and recognition of parent carers. These standards aim to ensure that parent carers receive the practical and emotional support they need, acknowledging that their role as caregivers is crucial and often goes unrecognised (taken from GM Intergrated Care). We continue to promote these throughout our work.
