Join Salford Parent Carer Forum in Making a Difference

Working in Partnership with Education, Health and Social Care

Salford Parent Carer Forum works closely with education, health, and social care services to ensure that the voices of families with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are heard and valued. By building strong partnerships with organisations such as NHS services, and Salford City Council, SalfordPCF helps shape and improve the support available across these sectors. They regularly gather feedback from parents and carers, attend strategic meetings, and co-produce solutions with professionals to influence service design and delivery. Their collaborative approach aims to create a more inclusive and responsive system that meets the real needs of families in Salford.

Working in Partnership with Schools

SalfordPCF has worked in partnership with a number of Salford schools on two nationwide projects, PINS and Neurodiversity in Schools.

Feedback from parent carers, as well as children and young people, has been at the centre of the projects to enable positive change and improving the experiences of children and young people with SEND in schools.

How can we support your service, school or organisation

Co-production with Parent Carers

Establishing a Parent Carer group

Establishing a Parent Carer group

Salford Parent Carer Forum (SalfordPCF) can support organisations with co-production by acting as a bridge between service providers and families of children and young people with SEND. They bring the authentic voices of parents and carers into the planning, design, and review of services, ensuring that lived experience shapes decision-making. SalfordPCF can help organisations understand what co-production truly means—working with families as equal partners rather than doing things for or to them. They can assist in organising focus groups, consultations, and workshops that involve parent carers from the outset, and they offer guidance on inclusive communication and engagement. By collaborating with SalfordPCF, organisations can build trust with the community, improve the relevance and effectiveness of their services, and meet statutory duties under the SEND Code of Practice more meaningfully.

Establishing a Parent Carer group

Salford Parent Carer Forum (SalfordPCF) can help your organisation set up a parent carer forum by sharing their expertise, practical tools, and lived experience of running an effective and inclusive forum. They can offer step-by-step guidance on how to recruit and engage parent carers, establish clear aims and roles, and build a safe, welcoming environment where families feel heard and valued. SalfordPCF can also support with training on co-production principles, inclusive communication, and how to manage group dynamics. In addition, they can advise on governance structures, maintaining independence, and how to work collaboratively with professionals from education, health, and social care. By sharing best practices and lessons learned, SalfordPCF can help your organisation create a strong, sustainable forum that ensures the voices of parent carers are embedded in service planning and delivery.

Peer Support

Salford Parent Carer Forum supports peer support by creating safe, welcoming spaces where parent carers of children and young people with SEND can connect, share experiences, and support one another. They run regular events, coffee mornings, and informal meet-ups that encourage parents to build relationships and reduce feelings of isolation. These gatherings are often facilitated by parent carers themselves, who understand the unique challenges others may be facing. SalfordPCF also signposts families to other local support networks, services, and resources, helping to build a strong community of mutual support. By promoting a culture of empathy, shared understanding, and solidarity, SalfordPCF empowers parent carers to support each other emotionally and practically through their journeys.
